Guides

Guides are markers to help identify important frames in a project. They may indicate the frame where a footfall occurs in the scene, the moment that someone passes through a portal in the image, or any other important event in a composite.

Guides are created in the small area between the time axis labels and the timeline view. They have the appearance of a small blue triangle and a blue line that extends from them vertically through the graph view.

Creating Guides

To create a guide, click in the space immediately above the timeline view and below the time axis labels.

Working With Guides

Holding the mouse pointer still over a guide will bring up a tooltip with the frame to which that guide is set, together with the name assigned to the guide (if any).

Deleting Guides

To delete a guide, click-drag it up beyond the axis labels and release the mouse. Alternately, right-click directly on the guide and select Delete Guide from the context menu.

Moving Guides

Click-drag a guide to reposition it along the time axis.

Show Guide List (Shift-G)

Right-clicking in the guides area and selecting Show Guide List will display a small dialog box that lists the current guides in the composition. Double-click on a guide's name to set the current time to the guide's time, and enable/disable the display of the guide in the spline and timeline editors.

Renaming Guides

By default, a guide is named after the time (frame) where it is set. When using guides to navigate, it is often useful to give the guides more descriptive names. To rename a guide, right-click on the guide and select Rename Guide from the context menu.

Sharing Guides With The Spline Editor

Right-click in the guides area and select Show Guide List or press Ctrl-G. A dialog box will appear with the names of the guides in the composition. Clicking on the name of a guide will cause the current time to change to that guide's frame.

There is a pair of checkboxes beside the names of each guide. One is for the spline editor and one is for the timeline.

By default, guides are created as visible in both portions of the Fusion interface. To prevent a guide from appearing in either view, deselect the appropriate checkbox.
