Overscan Description

[ Main Manual Page ]

Overscan_v1_3 Download

Allows you to scale or crop the image so the overscan (DoD reaching outside the regular image area) becomes visible. Requires Fusion 6.4 or later (with 6.3 it can still be used if you're not working in HiQ. There was a bug which caused only overscan outside the right image border to be displayed).

This Fuse is not only useful to check if the overscan area contains the intended data (some operations might inadvertently clear or crop these pixels). You can also use it to prepare an oversized image for 3rd party apps (e.g. Photoshop for matte painting). Some tools (like Transform) allow you to create an "infinite" DoD that is filled with duplicated edge pixels. In these cases, the tool will output the image unchanged.

Main Inputs

The following inputs appear on the tool's tile in the Flow Editor:

Input Image:Node_Input_Gold.gif
Source image. Required.

Controls Tab

Operation
Crop to DoD
output image will have exact dimensions of DoD. This is the only mode, where the output image may get smaller.
Expand Image
will enlarge image evenly until the complete overscan becomes visible. If DoD is smaller than the image, nothing will happen. Use this mode if you want to work with your overscan image in another program like Photoshop. This mode will always add the same amount of pixels to the left (or bottom) as it does to the right (or top). This makes it easy to crop or align the result with the original plate.
Scale to Fit
scales the picture down, until the complete DoD is visible. The image format will not change size in this case. Use this to check if everything is alright with the overscan area in your comp or to generate thumbnails.
Overlay Former Image Dimensions

If this checkbox is activated, the outline of the original image dimensions is shown in the viewport.
