Auto Render Range

Fusion now automatically sets the render range to match the currently selected tool, unless the artist has specifically set a render range. The compositions render range is set to match the frames where the tool will be producing a valid image, which is known as the tools 'valid extent'.

This feature permits an artist to use the spacebar to begin playback, even if they have not specifically set a render start and render end for the composition. Each time a tool is selected, the render range will automatically update to the valid extents for the new tool.

Fusion stops setting automatic render ranges once the artist sets one manually. This is done by entering new values into the Render Start and Render End portions of the time ruler, or by dragging or shift-dragging a tool into the time ruler from the flow.

This feature can also be disabled for the current composition by right-clicking in the Time Ruler and deselecting the Auto Render Range option from the context menu that appears.

Ping Pong Playback

The loop button in the time ruler is now a tristate button that can be set to no loop, loop, and ping pong modes. Ping Pong playback will play back the current render range forward, then backwards, and then repeat the same steps again. To switch between states, simply click on the loop button in the time ruler.

Copy / Paste Using the System Clipboard

The copy paste mechanism used by Fusion has been modified to use plain text. This makes it possible to copy a group of tools, and then paste them into any plain text editor. The resulting text could then be edited, copied into the clipboard again, and pasted back into the composition. The pasted tools will appear identical to the tools descriptions in the saved composition. This also has the advantage of allowing you to copy some tools and paste then into a different running copy of Fusion.

Keyframe Advance Hotkeys

The ALT+[ and ALT-] hotkeys can now be used to advance current time to the next keyframe present on the selected tool only.

Settings Toolbar

All tools now display a toolbar across the top of their control window. In addition to six slots labeled S1 through S6 for tool settings, the toolbar also provides buttons to toggle the tool's passthrough and locked modes, as well as a button to allow pinning the tools control window open, even when the tool is not selected.

The setting slots can be used to switch the tool between several control states. The initial state when a tool is added is S1, with the remaining slots empty. When changes are made to a tools controls, those changes are automatically saved to the current state. To start working on a new state click on a different state button in the toolbar. If the state button is empty then a copy of the current state will be used as a starting point. If the state already contains tool settings, those will be loaded instead. To return to a previously stored tool state, simply click on the state button where those settings were stored. To clear a state from a button, right click on the button and select Clear from the context menu.

The tools Save/Load Settings and Copy/Paste operations affect the active slot. To copy settings from one slot to another use the tools Copy option, then switch slots and Paste Settings into the tool.

Frame Formats

A new option was added to the Global Preferences / Frame Formats panel that allows the artist to select whether new Loader tools will use the 'From Image' or 'Default' option for the Pixel Aspect of the image. The 'From Image' option attempts to read the header of the source files, while the 'Default' option uses the pixel aspect of the compositions frame format preferences, regardless of the pixel aspect described in the source images header. See Loader for more information.

The OpenEXR format now supports a wider range of EXR files.

Bluefish support was updated to include support for the SD 'Greed' cards. Support for 10 bit RGB modes was also added for most Bluefish hardware.
