System Requirements
Before installing Fusion, review the following system requirements.

Hardware Requirements And Recommendations
Processor
Fusion is designed to take advantage of both Intel and AMD processors equally. It is recommended to have at least a Pentium IV or equivalent processor to operate Fusion. Fusion is able to take advantage of dual and quad core processors, and functions best with hyperthreading enabled. Multiple physical processors are strongly encouraged for optimal performance.
Graphics
The Fusion interface requires a resolution of 1280 x 1024 or greater. We suggest operating at a higher resolution, such as 1600 x 1200, for best results. Fusion also depends on hardware OpenGL acceleration, so the graphics card must provide a minimum amount of OpenGL support. At this time, only cards from NVIDIA and ATI are certified for use with Fusion 5.1
Memory
Fusion is designed to make use of every kilobyte of memory available. It is strongly recommend to have a minimum of 1GB of memory, as well as the use of 2GB, or even 3GB, of memory for any client working with film resolution or larger images.
Fusion is able to function with less RAM but it will be unable to take full advantage of the intuitive automatic caching system that makes Fusion's interactive performance so outstanding.
Note
Any Windows system with more than 1GB of memory should consider using the 3GB configuration switch for their OS. See the eyeon support FAQ for details.
DVD-ROM And CD
The Fusion installer and training materials are shipped on a CD and DVD-ROM.
USB Or Parallel Port
eyeon Software uses a hardware lock as part of its licensing system. This is a small device that connects to the USB or parallel port. If the hardware lock is not connected, Fusion will generally not operate.
New licenses of Fusion ship with a USB hardware lock unless a parallel port lock is specified when Fusion is ordered. Upgraded copies of Fusion will use whatever hardware lock that is available to the previous version of Fusion or DFX+.
If FlexLM network licensing is in use, a hardware lock will most likely not be required. Consult the system administrator.
Hard Drives
Fusion requires a minimum of 20MB of hard disk space to install, and a typical installation with all help materials, courseware and examples will consume approximately 250MB.
When working with footage stored locally, the speed of the drives will be a major factor in the performance of Fusion. If the footage comes from a remote fileserver or SAN, the network will be a much bigger factor than the drive performance.
Software Requirements
Operating Systems
Fusion 5 supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows XP Professional is strongly recommended, due to issues with the way Windows handles the allocation of memory greater than 1GB to software applications.
See the section on memory later in this book for details, or visit www.eyeonline.com and read the white paper in the support section's technical FAQs.
QuickTime
To load and save QuickTime media using Fusion, install the Apple QuickTime codec from Apple.
