Extending a tracked path beyond the range where the tracked object is visible

Summary

Extending a tracked path beyond the range where the tracked object is visible (Last Updated: February 18th, 2010)

What to do if your tracking is interrupted due to the tracking feature leaving the frame or being obstructed by foreground objects and there is no possibility to continue the tracking process with another feature.

Description

The easiest way is to presume the object continues it's movement at the same speed preserving the direction.
Then just select your Tracker, go to the Spline editor, click Sel, One, then select the Displacement.
RMB in the Spline window > Gradient Extrapolation.

You can also add new points to extend the path:

  1. Select the path in a Display View by pressing Tab
  2. Press the Show Key Points button (Shift+K)

  3. Select an end point you wish to extend the path beyond
  4. Add points outside the path by the Click Append tool (Shift+C)

  5. Select the new points and press the Lock Points button
