Changes Between 5.0 and 5.1
Contents |
The following document describes new functionality added to Fusion between the 5.0 and 5.1 releases. Click on the section heading for details.
Tool Changes
Fusion 5.1 adds eight new tools to Fusion, as well as enhancements to at least 14 others. The 3D toolset has been expanded, and the Paint tool has received major performance enhancements. Visit the 5.1 Tool Changes page for details.
File Requester
The Windows file browser was replaced with a custom file browser in Fusion 5.1. In addition to allowing for a consistent interface between Windows and Linux versions of Fusion, it also provides features like sequence concatenation and helpful shortcuts. Visit the File Requester page for details.
General Changes
Several useful improvements were made to the overall workflow in Fusion, such as automatic setting of the render range, extensive support for ping-pong style playback and a very useful settings toolbar. Visit the General Changes page for details.
Previews
Previews were improved to support ping-pong playback, to preserve alpha channels and to support fullscreen playback from the fixed display views. Visit the Previews page for details.
Flow, Timeline and Spline Editors
The main work areas of Fusion were enhanced slightly to accommodate oft-requested features, such as the ability to control the path taken by pipes in the Flow, and the ability to display curves for non-spline modifiers in the Spline Editor. Visit the Flow, Timeline and Spline Editors page for details.
Bins
The Bins in Fusion 5.1 now support custom icons for tool settings and macros, and can host shortcuts to non-Fusion assets like text documents, Acrobat PDF's and 3D scene files. Additionally, a new script makes it easier to manage standalone Bin Servers from any machine on the network. Visit the Bins page for details.
Polylines and Effects Masks
Masks have been improved to support the selection and manipulation of multiple polyline curves at once. Also, masks can now be connected directly to any tool's image input, making it possible to directly apply any effect to the mask. Visit the Polylines and Effects Masks page for details on these and other improvements.
MultiPath
A new feature, of particular interest to System Administrators and VFX Supervisors, is that Fusion can now accept multiple paths to any resource. For example, it is possible to specify a local path to an artist's scripts, as well as a path to a network share containing scripts for use by the entire facility. Visit the MultiPath page for details.
Display Views
Extensive changes were made in Fusion 5.1 to improve the usefulness and workflow when dealing with Look Up Tables (LUT's), and to improve the accuracy and quality of the OpenGL views display. Visit the Display Views page for details.
Console Slave
To address the growing use of third party render managers like Rush and Qube, Fusion 5.1 provides a version of the Render Slave that can be used to render directly from the command line.
