Loader - Source Color Space

I'm confused about how the Loader's built-in 'Source Color Space' option is used. Without giving it a destination space, what is this doing?

Without adding an output space, it should just linearize the given input space.

It defines the Color Space for the Source. It won't do much straight away, but it will change the Metadata accordingly so it can be used later on. By tools, by scripts, you name it.

Turn on the Metadata subview and you can see it in there.

That would be Source Gamma Space, not Source Color Space....
