Attention - Win10 Update (1709)

#1

Post by ISOTRON » Wed Nov 22, 2017 2:55 am

Fusion version: 9.01

OS and version: Win10 Version 1709

Description of the bug: Fusion didnt work anymore

Severity (Trivial, Minor, Major, Critical) CRITICAL

Steps to reproduce: i updatet from Version 1703 to 1709 and just one loader with a CC-node lets Fusion crash

This is possibly due to Fusion 9.0.1's handling of OpenCL when it interacts with your current graphics card driver. This type of issue has been discussed a lot on the WSL and BMD forums.

Can you try using the OpenCL Control script to see if that allows Fusion to run again on your system?

We have OpenCL disabled by default due to the problems it causes. So I'm now on Win10 version 1709 and I don't experience the same issues as you describe.

Just to provide some more info for what it's worth - after upgrading to win10 1709 I found that adding any CC node crashed Fusion9 (and the openCL options in the CC tab that deals with this weren't showing at all) until I changed the nvidia driver from the current ODE driver 385.90 to the current "New feature" driver 388.16 after which the problem seemed to go away. Possibly relevant (or maybe not).

The thread on the BMD forum:

I guess it's not important which driver you install, just a new install is the secret. Somehow fusion or windows loosing the OpenCL device

I installed once the Intel CPU OpenCL driver and everything went back to "normal", I could even choose my GPU

I am running 1803 at the moment and i am not having any problems with OpenCL tools. CC is not crashing Fusion either.

Fusion OpenCL settings are on Auto.

Maybe the problem is a combination with specific GPU cards? I have an 1080Ti and a GTX1070 card installed on my desktop.

Have not heard this repeated for a while - marking as fixed. Let me know if it needs reopening... :)
