Blitz FX - Lightning & Electric Effects Fuse for Fusion 16

Blitz.jpg
Ahoy there mateys,

Blitz FX (German for lightning) is an effect fuse for Fusion 16 that was designed with the purpose of creating different types of electrical and lightning effects. That being said, early in development we realized that the procedural nature of the underlying algorithm has the potential for wildly different types of effects and so the project grew from there. Because we wanted to give artists as much creative freedom as possible, we provide incredibly fine grained controls, so that if you can imagine it, we hope that you'll be able to build it with Blitz FX. We would love to see the ingenious ways in which you make use of our fuse so please share with us your creations. This is only the Lite version with very basic functionality and some limitations. Look forward to some amazing new features in the upcoming months.

For a more detailed feature list visit https://www.con-fusion.net/blitz-fx

Blitz FX is and will be completely free for you to use commercially as you please. No gold donation needed, although a bottle of Rum is always welcome :P .

Patrons of Confusion will get access to beta builds months before public release and will be able to directly participate in the fuse's development by giving us feedback and telling us what features you would like to see implemented. Every build will be accompanied by an exclusive tutorial which will be much more in-depth than the public videos. Depending on the tier you will also get your pirate name in the fuse, so it is. Saucy indeed.

Start growing ye beards mateys!

BLITZ FX LITE, SOON ON REACTOR
Dear Wizards, Pirates and others, SOON is now NOW :cheer:

Go get the stuff on Reactor please ⚡

Image

There is a chance that Blitz won't show up when you open Reactor. Sometimes that happens when some bigger changes have been pushed to the repository. If that is the case, you will see an ominous 500 Internal Server Error in the Console.

Resyncing the repository will solve the issue:

and if they are installed, and you're wondering where the comp is, go here:

and ye shall find :)

Enjoy the booty! 🏴‍☠️

Please note that a small update (1.01) has been made to the Blitz Lite Fuse in Reactor. If you previously installed the package, please update. The demo comp is still the same.

If you go into the Blitz Fuse in Fusion, and you see a big Reload button at the top, you have the latest and you're all good :)

Looks really promising! Is it meant to be a competitor to video copilot's saber for after effects? Will there be an overview of Blitz pro features? Is it capable of following mask contour?

Can you describe this in a bit more detail please?

What I meant is can it constrain the generated element to a mask path like saber does? Bend it to curve and fill it's length

That's a completely different tool!
I'm aware that @Midgardsormr is working on something like that.
Blitz it's a tool to make lightning bolts and much more.

Cheers!

like saber does
What I meant was that "like saber" doesn't mean anything to people that haven't used saber...

There's a lot of referring to AE plugins and tools etc, which is fine, but don't forget this is a Fusion forum, so this is a bit like speaking a different language.

Part of having a problem solved is being able to explain it unambiguously. Which is often quite hard to do, but it's worth doing :)

This is brilliant, not much to add as everything seems to be thought of. Only things I can think of:

* It would be great to somehow have it generated in 3D but I guess the cases where this would be useful may be limited.
* Motion blur would be nice.
* Animation of start and end points doesn't seem to work When Phase Rate is high (This may be intended behavior).
* Would be nice to have some Phase operation that would allow a time controllable transition between the Phase Changes (To make them less abrupt).

But its a really great tool and I can see it being used a lot by myself to generate veins, rivers, and energy bolts.

Nice work Vito and those involved.

Hi mdglitch, I'm Vito's partner in crime on the fuse. To answer your question, Blitz wasn't designed to compete with any specific tool in mind, we just wanted to see how much we can push Fusion's scripting capabilities, and, well, we just wanted to make some cool effects :D. To that end we welcome all feedback and feature requests. If you would like to support and shape the tool please also consider becoming a pirate... of confusion that is :P. You will get access to all beta builds, in-depth tutorials and much more. We'll have more details in the months to come. As for the mask you suggested we think it's a brilliant idea and I've added it to our backlog :)

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Regarding the 3D aspect of it it's something we really want to add in an upcoming feature. The math itself easily handles the 3D aspect, it's more about figuring out how to play with Fusion's transform and projection matrices to simulate the effect and hopefully integrate it into the proper 3D workflow of Fusion. When we start working on it perhaps some of the wizards on the forums here will be able to lend us a hand. They've given invaluable advice in the past :)

The start and end points not appearing to work correctly probably is a bit of a quirk right now. It comes down to when should things update vs what happens when they do update. Does the lightning change shape, is the seed retained and so on. Since we couldn't come up with something satisfactory we've introduced a few dubious settings which we'll explain in the near future - probably in one of Vito's tutorials. In fact the whole update pipeline is something I really wish we could handle differently that what Fusion provides by default. It's another area I would love to consult with some of the more experienced programmers here.

And with “partner” he doesn’t mean anything dubious, just wanna make that clear :)

Thanks Pieter for the Reactor swag!
