Livestream compositing! Lost in the sky - A sci-fi movie

#1

Post by danell » Tue Jan 21, 2020 5:46 am

For the next two weeks I'll livestream me working on the short sci-fi movie Lost in the sky that me and some friends have bin working on in our free time for the last 2 years.
Everything is real footage in this movie. The robot is a real robot that I have built, the spaceships are miniatures and the space is shot in water-tanks.
As this is a hoby project with BIG ambitions but 0 legal strings I thought, why not stream it for the onces who might be interested to watch :)
I don't know what will happen exactly when but I'll update for each day what will happen for that day.

Currently I'm going to do the compositing for the first half of the second act so we have something to show financiers, so that's where we're at!

Day1:
Today I try to solve a big problem. How do you transfer pretty complicated Premiere/Resolve projects with masks, animation and such to Fusion Studio? (Spoiler, you can't in any good way).
Else it's just some standard preparation for the upcoming compositing.
There is also some fuse creation towards the end of the video.

Day2:
Today not much happen, mostly finalizing the workflow, informing and teaching about ACES (in Swedish) and making sure all the tech stuffs are correct.

Day3:
Today we're starting compsiting the first shot of our 3 picked shots to set how the world should look like around our character.

Day4:
Today we'll continue with the second comp of our first 3. Yesterday ended a bit too late so today we'll hopefully end a bit earlier but still come quite a bit in the comp!
Part1:

Part2:

Day5:
Second comp done! Third one started

Day6:
I'm finalizing the third shot and go through what's needed to be done with our 3 first shots for tomorrow to make them 100% final!
I'm also trying to talk more english in the videos from here on to make it more interesting to watch :)

Day7:
IT'S DONE! The first three images are DONE (hopefully)!
Now it's just the other 9 images left with 3 days left. Will the impossible happen? Tune in for tomorrows video!

Day8:
The big 3 is done, let's copy paste to make the rest!

Day9:
I tried to be done with all the shots but one is left for tomorrow. So close!

Day10:
Finishing all the comps to 95% completion! Day 11 will be the last day where we'll bring them to 100%

Oooh, so it goes to 11! :)

Thanks for sharing this progress @danell - I haven't been able to watch all of itl yet, but every now and then I am playing a bit in the background.

And shaking my head whenever you use the contrast slider.

Ambient tutorial videos, a genre in and of itself :D

Day 11 will be small pieces from a lot of days as I don't have more time to work on this and only can do in small gaps I'll might get. So hang in there!

I'm not a fan of the contrast slider but... I often just slide it to see what happens. If it looks good I leave it :)
