Why are some nodes processing 20x when rendering?

Hi!

This is something I have come across on several occasions.

At this moment I am rendering a comp with some 3d geometry (obj) with static textures, nothing complex. When using viewport playback at max settings all is rendering smoothly. However, when I render the comp to a saver things get really slow. In this instance the 3d geometry and texture nodes turn green in a cycle for about 20x before the render continues to the 3dRender node, taking ages.

As said, I come across this quite a lot, usually in a hurry to get stuff done so I cope with it then. I'll try to see if there's a pattern, and perhaps reproduce in a simple comp.

Meanwhile I thought I'd throw this issue on the forum. Anybody have a clue as to what could be going on?

Marc

Are you using any sort of TimeSpeed/Stretcher, MotionBlur, DOF, or the like?

If your Mesh/Textures/Lights/... are really static, try to throw a Time3D right after the last "static" tool.
In some occasions this increases caching and reduces rendertimes drastically.

Hello SirEdric,

Thank you for those points! No timestretcher, motion blur or dof, well, just z buffer and post dof. Also funny thing is, I have 2 identical sets of that geo/textures, but with a tiny adjustment. One does the repeated processing, the other doesn't....

Also, come to think of it, this stuff happens on both my workstations. One being a heavy laptop with win7, the other a desktop with win10.

Tried the time3d node, no luck there...

Cheers!

Hi murc.

Hmmm....in that case it's probably best to try to simplify the comp as much as possible,
so we can have a look at it.

Cheers.

Eric.

dont ask, but try to "copy all" make new comp, "paste all" , and have a look. In some cases i fixed the bug with this methode.

Try Time stretch with static frame after texture, or Retime3D before the nodes with animation.
