Northsea - VFX breakdown
Heya wuckers,
Last year we started work on a Norwegian disaster film, "Northsea". Its currently doing the rounds at the cinema here. Put together a little breakdown
Blender for all CG, Houdini for some sim stuff, Nuke (sigh) for comp and tons of Fusion for all the environmental effects & atmospherics in every shot.

Re: Northsea - VFX breakdown
That's an impressive amount of vfx work for a small crew, no? Other than the actual compositing, I also really like the pace of the edit and how breakdowns are being introduced. Great job.
Did Rebel Unit also have to come up with the actual design? Art Direction? It must have been fun assembling all the bits and bobs to turn it into this chaotic murky and foreboding virtual set.

Re: Northsea - VFX breakdown
Thanks yeah had a crew of 2-4 people. We did get some pretty awesome storyboards for a few key shots. But we designed most of the shots, layouts, environments and actions. A lot of freedom to just create something interesting. The robot is actually a real prototype of an unmanned sub sea robot. But obviously CG for these sequences.

truly great work!
small teams can do wonders, i know from my own experience. doesn't take legions of artists.
i just wish the title card was more legible, hard to read it- is that the title from the film or made just for the breakdown?
